Property & planning

Having rewired and upgraded installations in terraces, bungalows and new builds right across Thanet for decades, the same message comes up: check planning and conservation rules before you commit to dates with trades. Below are the official portals and guidance we point clients towards.

Planning & application search

Conservation areas & heritage

Many streets in Margate (including parts of the Old Town), Ramsgate and Broadstairs sit in conservation areas. Alterations to windows, roofs, boundaries or frontages may need planning consent even when similar work elsewhere would be permitted development.

TDC — Conservation areas Heritage & conservation

Listed buildings have separate consent requirements; always speak to the council planning team or a planning consultant for your specific address.

Electrical work & building control

Notifiable electrical work (most consumer unit changes, new circuits, rewires in special locations) must be completed by a registered competent person or notified to building control. That sits alongside — not instead of — planning permission where it is required.

Contact Thanet Electrical for domestic or commercial electrical work and certification.
