Leisure
Nearly fifty years on the Isle means plenty of walks, chips and beach miles. Below is a practical starting point for dog owners and a short “best of” list — opinionated, but honestly earned.
Dog-friendly beaches & rules
Thanet District Council sets Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) for dog control on beaches. Restrictions vary by beach and season (many popular bays limit dogs on the sand during summer daytime). Fines can apply, so always read the current council guidance before you set out.

Local “best of” (our picks)
Suggestions only; businesses change hands and menus change. No affiliation — just places we rate after years around the towns.
-
Fish & chips
Independent shops in Ramsgate harbour, Broadstairs (you know the famous one) and Margate Old Town still set the bar; queue with the locals for the freshest haul.
-
Coastal walks
Viking Bay round to Stone Bay, the clifftop path Margate towards Reculver on a clear day, and Pegwell Bay for birdlife and big skies.
-
Rainy day
Turner Contemporary, Ramsgate Tunnels (check opening), and a proper cup of tea in a seafront café while the weather blows through.
