The Dream Look

That switch has been in the wrong place for years - you catch it with your elbow, or it's behind the door. Moving it a metre or two would transform the room. But how much disruption are we talking? And what does it actually involve?

Trade Secret

If the cable has enough slack, we can sometimes pull it to a new position without chasing - but that's rare. Usually we extend the cable in the wall. We chase a new route (vertical from ceiling or horizontal in the safe zone), run the cable, make good, and decorate. The old switch position gets blanked or becomes a socket if the cable allows. Always run in the safe zones - horizontal and vertical from fittings - so future owners know where not to drill.

The Mess Factor

We'll need to chase a new route - that means dust and making good. Typically we chase, fit the cable, fill, and leave you to decorate. Or we can coordinate with your plasterer if you're already refurbishing. For a simple move (one switch, short run), expect half a day plus making good. We'll clear up and minimise disruption - dust sheets are standard.

Thanet Home Highlight

Older Thanet properties often have switches in odd places - legacy of different room layouts. In Margate's Victorian terraces and Ramsgate's townhouses, we move switches all the time during renovations. Solid walls mean chasing is the norm; we'll advise on the cleanest route and ensure the finish is as neat as the original.
