The Dream Look
A new bedroom, home office, or playroom in the roof - your loft conversion will add real value and space. But the electrics can't be an afterthought. Lighting, sockets, maybe en-suite or HVAC - it all needs proper planning, and that often means a dedicated sub-main from the consumer unit.
Trade Secret
Don't try to feed a whole loft from existing circuits. A sub-main (a dedicated supply from the consumer unit to a small distribution board in the loft) gives you capacity for lights, sockets, maybe an immersion or ventilation. It's cleaner, easier to isolate, and future-proof. Plan it early - before the first fix - so the builder leaves the right voids and the cable routes are logical. And get your electrician in at design stage, not when the plasterboard's up.
The Mess Factor
We'll run a sub-main cable from the consumer unit to the loft - usually through the floor or along a route agreed with your builder. The cable is larger (often 16mm or 25mm T&E depending on load) and needs a clear path. Coordination with structural work is key - we need to know where the new walls and joists are. Expect us on site at first-fix stage and again at second fix. Making good is part of the job.
Thanet Home Highlight
Loft conversions are booming in Thanet - Margate's Victorian terraces, Ramsgate's townhouses, and Broadstairs' villas all have loft potential. We've wired dozens of Thanet loft conversions, from simple bedrooms to full ensuite master suites. Local knowledge of typical roof construction and consumer unit positions helps us plan efficient cable routes.
